Whats that mad twat up to now?
Have been a bit quite on here recently, so just wanted to take a moment to update people on my latest challenge.

Today (Friday 20th September 2024) at 6pm, I’ll be setting off on a 100 mile fun romp through the Brecon Beacons with my mates Paul Spence and Lee Thompson.

The distance is challenging enough, but doesn’t really bother me that much, after all its only just shy of four Marathons back to back, but the real dread is the mountains, this course consist of 6000 metres of climbing, that’s about 20,000 feet, it may actually be more than this, as we’re just going off the GPX route which we upload to our watches to help with navigation, but one of last year’s runners ended up doing 27,000 feet, which took them thirty five hours and got them into seventh place. First place finished in just over twenty-four hours. About two thirds of all contestants usually drop out with injuries or a sudden realisation of common sense.

To give some idea of the height we’ll be covering it’s a bit more than doing the national three peaks (Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowden) twice, with probably enough room to add in a few climbs up the Eiffel tower afterwards.

So why do it?

Whilst running might be good for me, there are extremes, and I think I would still do this stuff even if I knew it was bad for me, which given the state of my toe nails, it might well be.

In short I do this because I love being outdoors and taking in stunning views, I love challenging myself, and I know that one day I’ll be physically incapable of doing this stuff, so I’ll attempt it now whilst I can.

Another good reason is I’ll be helping to raise money for an amazing charity. Just over ten years ago Paul suffered a serious brain injury which completely changed his life, he lost his job, he became depressed and scared and unable to leave the house.

Then one day he decided to try a few press ups and sit ups, managed about three, but decided to do the same thing the next day and managed a few more. Through regular exercise he found his way back to the land of the living, and he set up Paul for Brain, a charity which helps survivors of brain trauma, he now regularly takes part in Marathons, Triathlons, Ultra runs and anything that challenges him.

It’s an honour to be asked to run with him, and I hope you’ll help his foundation by contributing a few quid, you can do so here

This is the tracking link if you'd like to do some dot watching this weekend.

you can also follow us on Pauls social media feed which will be updated regularly throughout the day.

Hope you enjoy your weekend, I’ll probably be climbing mountains whilst your sleeping! Thanks for your support.
